Style Inspiration: 8-11 inches

This article is part of a style inspiration series

Learning to style your hair without extensions and wigs in ways that make you feel pretty is key to falling in love with your natural hair and enjoying wearing it.

At this length, you almost have unlimited style options. Styles that you did when your hair was shorter will look different at this length.

Fro

Fro’s are classic. At this length, you’ll probably want to stretch your hair without heat to achieve this look and reduce tangles.

Puff

At this length, puffs are easy. Try not to make it too tight, and choose your band carefully to avoid breakage.

Finger Coils

At this length, finger coils are cute even though they take longer. Once your hair is completely dry, you can leave them in place or separate them for big hair.

Two Strand Twists

Two strand twists are an easy style that doesn’t require a lot of skill. As your hair grows, experiment with twist sizes to find the size you like the most. As your hair gets longer, you might prefer larger twists.

Twist Out

Twist outs are a great way to get bigger hair and keep your hair stretched (which reduces tangles).

Braids/Plaits

At the time of publication, mini braids are all the rage. Don’t limit yourself, though. Remember, it’s ideal to shampoo your hair weekly. You don’t want to spend hours on a style you will remove in a week.

Create any size braids that you like. Don’t limit yourself to what everyone else is doing.

Mini Braids

Braid Updo

This is an excellent example of how you can style simple braids when your hair is this length. They don’t have to be small.

Braid Out

A braid out will look similar to a twist out. Try both and see which one you like more.

Cornrows

When your hair is longer, it’s easier to make larger cornrows and create sophisticated styles like this.

Flat Twists

Continue to explore creative ways to part your hair for flat twists. You can do something simple, like two flat twists, or a more complicated style like this.

Roll, Tuck & Pin

At this length, you can take roll, tuck & pin styles to another level and create beautiful updos like this.

Bantu Knots

Bantu knots don’t have to be unraveled. It’s a cute style all on its own.

Bantu Knot Out

You can unwind them for a cute alternative to a rollerset.

Rollersets

Rollersets are the way to get perfect curls. Technique and product selection are key to getting great results.

This style takes time and patience to master. Take your time and make sure your hair is completely dry.

Combos

Creativity shines, and styling options are infinite when you combine styles.
